Victoria (“Vicky”) Diaz Massey, 67, slipped away to her heavenly home on July 3, 2024 after a year-long battle with multiple ailments.
She was born in Pleasanton, Texas on January 15, 1957 to Sylvestre and Juanita Diaz. She grew up in Poteet, Texas with her five siblings. Vicky was described by her baby brother as lively and independent – a strong woman with a great sense of humor. Her sister added, “She was the best sister to me…a wonderful person.”
In adulthood, Vicky moved to Houston where she met the love of her life, Donald Massey. They were married in an intimate courthouse ceremony on September 4, 2004.
Vicky had a huge heart for animals. So much so, that one day she came home with a 100-gallon fish tank filled with murky black water – a neglected collection of fish from the lobby of an auto shop. Also among her menagerie over the years? A cockatoo, a parrot, 2 cats, and 4 dogs.
Bitten by the travel bug, Vicky and Donald shared many adventures – taking trips to Mexico, Alaska, England, Belize, and many others.
Vicky was active on the tennis courts, even running a tennis club early in her career. She worked in oilfield manufacturing for the remainder of her working life - 20 of those years with National Oilwell Varco.
She retired in 2021, and got to fully enjoy her greatest adventure: being a Nanna to two grandbabies.
Vicky could be found listening to the blues, shopping for great sales, or tending to her extensive garden.
She is survived by her husband, Donald, stepson Brandon Massey of Atlanta, Ga., stepdaughter Megan (Ryan) Rutherford of Webster, Granddaughters Madelyn Grace and Audrey Faith Rutherford, sister Enluteria (Mariano) Garza of Poteet, sister Adelina Diaz of Poteet, sister Sylvia (Raymond) Quinonez of Johnson City, brother Joe (Diana) Diaz of Corpus Christi, several nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvestre and Juanita Diaz, and sister Josie Garcia.
Her absence will forever be carried heavy in the hearts of those that loved her.
