Stephen Edward Mercier

June 10, 1959 — May 22, 2026

Houston, Texas

Stephen Edward Mercier passed away on May 22, 2026, at the age of 66. He was born on June 10, 1959, in Jacksonville, Florida, and spent his childhood growing up throughout Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

Stephen proudly served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in the Philippines, where he met the love of his life through mutual friends. He later married his beloved wife on November 16, 1983, beginning a marriage she described as a true “fairy tale” romance. Together they built a life centered around love, laughter, and family.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose warmth and humor left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. He was the cherished son of Robert Mercier and Carol Hersch, and brother to Michael, Vernon, Eugene, Donald, and Mary Ann.

Stephen was known for being fun-loving, hardworking, sweet, sensitive, and endlessly supportive. He led quietly by example and believed that sometimes people needed the freedom to fail in order to learn how to succeed. Above all else, he was proud of his children and loved his family deeply.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: classic rock music, soccer and sports, Star Trek, western movies, fishing, working on cars, DIY projects, collecting old coins, and long family road trips. A perfect day for Stephen would have included fishing, laughter, and time spent with the people he loved most.

Some of the memories his family treasures most are the many trips they took together by car and plane, and the small moments that revealed his gentle heart — like carrying his children inside after they pretended to fall asleep, or making loved ones laugh with his playful teasing. His family will forever miss his smiling face, warm embrace, humor, and the comfort of simply being near him.

Stephen impacted others through his kindness, generosity, and steady presence. He was always willing to help people and lived with a laid-back spirit that made others feel accepted and cared for. Those who knew him will remember him as a loving person who valued family, quality of life, and creating meaningful memories together.

Funeral and memorial service information will be announced at a later date. Flowers and expressions of love are welcome as the family gathers to celebrate Stephen’s life and legacy. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
