Richard Michael Roos, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, in Rosenberg, Texas.

Richard was born November 29, 1942 in Mount Vernon, Indiana, to Lawrence and Daisy Mae Roos, and lived a full and meaningful life marked by love for his family, deep faith, and a joyful spirit that touched all who knew him.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy before beginning a long career with Houston Lighting and Power Company, where he eventually retired.

Richard was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. His faith was an important part of his life, and he found great joy in worship, fellowship, and living with kindness and gratitude.

He enjoyed many passions throughout his life, including fishing, hiking, traveling, scuba diving, skydiving, and gardening. One of his many cherished adventures was being able to go scuba diving with his daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Steven. Another treasured adventure was traveling with his family to Homer, Alaska, where they enjoyed deep sea fishing for halibut, flying high above the breathtaking glaciers, and witnessing the beauty of Alaska’s wildlife. The memories of watching bears catch fish from the shoreline of the ocean and seeing a mother bear and her cubs in the meadow were moments he and his family will always cherish.

Richard also deeply enjoyed seeing the world with his beloved wife of 49 years, Carolyn. Over the years they traveled with close friends and explored remarkable places including Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, and many destinations across Europe, creating countless memories and friendships along the way.

Richard especially loved spending time with family, listening to good music, and simply enjoying life’s moments together. His warm personality, sense of humor, and good spirit made him a joy to be around.

Richard will be remembered as a kind, funny, faithful, and hardworking husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family deeply.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Hlavac Roos; his daughter, Stephanie Marie Roos Hurst and her husband, Steven Rick Hurst; and his cherished grandchildren, Steven Richard Hurst and Sophia Rose Hurst, and numerous nieces and nephews.
