Mary Kathleen Smolik

Mary Kathleen Smolik, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 7, 2026. Kathy was born in Yoakum, Texas to John and Mary Hermes on November 12, 1940.

Kathy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Meme) and great grandmother. She loved cooking, baking, and hosting parties. She was a charter member of the Holy Family Catholic Church Fellowship Committee where she served as President for 10 years. She was always passionate about organizing the various galas, bazaars and bake sales.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Hermes, as well as her brothers-in-law Jack Stevens of La Grange, Henry Prihoda of Wharton and Syl Matej of Wallis; sisters-in-law Agnes Stern of San Antonio and Margaret Prihoda of Wharton.

Kathy is survived by her loving and devoted husband Isidor, her sons John Smolik (Julie) of El Campo and Doug Smolik of Wharton; grandchildren Danny Smolik (Angela) of El Campo, Amy Pratka (Cameron) of El Campo, Hunter Smolik of Wharton and Laynie Smolik of Houston; great grandchildren Marykate Pratka and Madilyn Pratka of El Campo; her sisters Dorothy Stevens of La Grange and Jeanne Pargmann (Ronnie) of Yoakum; sister-in-law Jannie Matej of Wallis and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 9 a.m. followed by the Rosary with the Funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. All services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church 2011 Briar Ln. Wharton, TX 77488.
