Lauranne (Laurie) Murray
Laurie Murray of Rosenberg, Texas, cashed in her Golden Ticket on May 22, 2026, when she went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Laurie was born February 15, 1948, to Betty and Bob Turek in Bryan, Texas. Shortly after graduating from high school, she married R. O. Murray on June 4, 1967. She worked at Anco Insurance for several years before the family moved to Dallas, and then to Houston. For several years, she was the bookkeeper for Murray Construction. After moving to Needville, her husband felt the call to serve Jesus. Together they joined in Cowboys for Christ, an organization that ministered to participants and their families on the rodeo circuit. In 1996 together they established Texas Cowboy Church in Orchard, Texas, with R.O. as the pastor and Laurie as assistant pastor. Laurie was also the bookkeeper, janitorial service, Sunday school teacher, organizer of many activities, and anything else that needed to be done. She helped organize food drives, toy drives, and clothing drives for anyone in need. “Energizer Bunny” would have best described her when it came to her work for Jesus and Texas Cowboy Church.
Laurie was an animal lover – cats, dogs, ducks, and hummingbirds. At one time she had several ducks. If the ducks were not around at feeding time, she would call them and they knew the sound of her voice and would come waddling to her. Two cats came to Cowboy Church at separate times, and they became part of the Murray Household.
Laurie was one of the King’s Kids as we say at Cowboy Church. She loved Jesus deeply even when she was in so much pain. She had such a caring heart and gentle spirit that a person meeting her knew she loved the Lord. As her condition worsened, she had one song that became her favorite, “Homesick for Heaven” (Phil Wickham). And now she is home.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents Betty and Bob Turek, her sister Lynette Turek, and her granddaughter Kayla Murray. She is survived by her husband, Pastor R. O. Murray, her daughter, Kristie Murray Morgan, sister Linda Turek, Grandchildren Haley Morgan (J), Logan Garcia (Lira, Blaise, Tyler, and Lorenzo), great grandchildren Jalyn Villafranca, and Kailo and Gunner Garcia.
A “Going Home” service will be held at Texas Cowboy Church, 15404 FM 1489, Orchard, TX., on May 30, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Because some of some people’s allergies, please do not send any flowers to the church. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Laurie’s memory in serving Jesus may donate at the service. If wishing to donate by mail, the mailing address is Texas Cowboy Church at 6363 Blasé Road, Rosenberg, TX. 77471.
