Dana Rochelle Mikes was born in Houston Texas on February 11, 1970, and passed away surrounded by her loved ones on May 13, 2026.
Dana held many roles throughout her life. Wife of 31 years, mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, and niece, but her favorite role of all was being “Chickie” to her grandson, Tucker.
Dana graduated from Brazos High School. She then met the love of her life, Frank Mikes. Together, Dana and Frankie built a beautiful life in East Bernard, where they raised their two children and created a loving home.
Dana dedicated many years to working for East Bernard Independent School District. She truly loved working with the students and cherished the lifelong friendships she made along the way. Recently retired, Dana happily embraced her favorite role yet, becoming a “certified Chickie” and spending her days loving and caring for her grandson.
Dana loved many things in life, but nothing meant more to her than spending time with her family. Whether it was relaxing at home on a beautiful day, shopping together, spending time in Matagorda, or visiting the family farm, she cherished every moment. She especially loved spending time with her mother and grandparents, creating memories that she carried with her throughout her life.
Known for her warm heart and even warmer kitchen, Dana showed her love to her family and friends through cooking and baking. Her homemade cookies were unmatched and the cookie jar was always full.
One of Dana’s favorite times of the year was Christmas. Anyone who knew her knew that Santa decorations stayed up in her home all year long. A tradition and love she learned from her grandmother. Dana brought warmth, joy, and laughter wherever she went, and her love for family was felt by everyone around her.
Dana is survived by her loving husband, Frank Mikes; her children, Tyler and Leslie Mikes; her beloved grandson, Tucker Mikes; her daughter-in-law, Hannah Mikes; her son-in-law, Collin Hallgarth; her mother, Carol McVay; her siblings, Marissa Settle and Travis McVay; along with many other family members and friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lillie and Dan Ferguson; her father, Arthur McVay; and her in-laws, Frank and Gloria Mikes.
Dana was the biggest advocate for spreading kindness. The family asks you to honor her by spreading a little kindness through the world each day in everything you do. Always forgive and always show love to honor her legacy.
A celebration of Dana’s life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the American Legion Hall in East Bernard.
