Celia (Sallie) Tovar Sosa, a lifelong resident of East Bernard, Texas, passed away on April 13, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on June 29, 1951, Sallie was a strong and steady presence for her family, offering love, guidance, and quiet strength throughout her life.
Sallie graduated from East Bernard High School, where she shone as both an athlete and a member of the band. Her determination and academic achievement earned her a scholarship to Wharton County Junior College. These early accomplishments were just the beginning of a life defined by perseverance, heart, and quiet leadership.
She went on to build a long and accomplished career as an Executive Assistant, serving with distinction at NL Baroid, Houston-Galveston Area Council, and Osyka Corporation. Her professionalism and warmth left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.
More than a mother, Sallie was everyone’s constant. She was a woman of extraordinary grace, warmth, and strength. Her soul radiated with kindness, compassion, and an open heart for everyone she encountered. She cared for others deeply and gave love with everything she had — and somehow always found more to give.
Her absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but we take comfort in knowing her spirit lives on in each of us — in the way we love, the way we care and look out for each other, and the way we carry forward her legacy of selfless love.
Above all, Sallie was devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Julian Sosa; her daughters Natalie Sosa DeLuna, Jessica Sosa Jones, and Vanessa Sosa; her grandchildren Nicolas DeLuna (Layna), Amanda DeLuna, Gabriella Garcia, Thomas Garcia Jr., Isaiah Jones, Aaron Vasquez (Alexa), and Mariah Martinez; and her great-grandchildren Nicole DeLuna, Kenzie DeLuna, Ace DeLuna, Gianna Lee, Ayda Garcia, Myla Garcia, McKenzie Molyneux, and Emma Vasquez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her siblings: Annie Peña (Felix), Fred Tovar, Irene Muñoz (Richard), Rachel Ramos (Joe), Teresa Tovar, Mario Tovar, and Becky Tovar.
Sallie was preceded in death by her parents, Jacinto Tovar Sr. and Bernarda Tovar; her brother, Jacinto (Jack) Tovar Jr.; her sister-in-law, Linda Tovar; her niece, Irma Tovar; her nephew, Richard Martinez; and her beloved grandson, Roland Rene DeLuna.
Our family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has offered love, support, prayers, and presence during this time. Your kindness and compassion have brought great comfort, and we are deeply grateful.
